According to an exclusive report published Tuesday by CNN, the United States has exhausted nearly 80% of its interceptor missiles for a critical ballistic missile defense system during the recent conflict with Iran, as senior military commanders are warning that the Pentagon’s munitions stockpile is “dangerously low.” The U.S. Army has burned through nearly four-fifths its inventory of THAAD Anti-Ballistic Missile Interceptors compared to pre-war numbers and roughly half of its PATRIOT Interceptors since the start of the Iran War in late February, according to two sources familiar with the latest inventory report by the Pentagon. The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) estimates the United States had around 2,200 PATRIOT GEM-T and PAC-3 and 452 THAAD Interceptors in its stockpile before the start of the Iran War, though those numbers have dwindled as the months have drawn on and Iran continues to launch missile attacks against U.S. bases and allies in the Middle East.
